Baker wrestlers equalled a school record Saturday while placing second at the Special District 4-4A tournament at Madras.
The Bulldogs tied the school record of 14 wrestlers qualifying for state while placing second to La Grande in the team standings, 376.5 points to 317.
“Everybody came together at the right time,” said Baker coach Brandon Young.
“We wrestled really, really tough.”
Baker district champions were Gavin Stone (106 pounds), Mariano Duran (113), Alex Duran (126), Colton Anderson (132), and Ian Feldmeier (145).
Alex Duran was champion for the third time, and Anderson for the second time. Duran tied the team record for pins in a season, earning two at district.
Placing second were Isael Duran (106), Johnny Niehaus (120), Jake Eskew (145) and Hon Rushton (170).
Taking third was Alex Ritter at 182.
Fourth-place winners, and state qualifiers, were Trevor Tidwell (113), Alex Davila (138), Gauge Bloomer (160), and Lucien Yervasi (195).
Other district placers were Seth Rushton (152), Adrian Allen (170) and Eithan Jensen (220), fifth; Setara Kong (126) and Jordan Bryant (182), sixth; and Connor Jensen (138), Hunter Lind (152) and Ayden Welk (160), eighth.
The state tournament will be Feb. 22-23 at Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
